After Hell, Dante arrives at the terraced Mount of Purification. On its summit is the earthly paradise from which Adam and Eve were expelled. On the seven levels of the Mount of Purification, the souls who have also committed sins, but who, unlike the souls in hell, can still be saved, do penance.
